Homo Faber

The best of excellent artisanship in Venice

Homo Faber 2026 is the biennial event celebrating international artisanship, manual creativity, and the value of the handmade, in the heart of Venice. The event will take place from September 1st to 30th, 2026, in the historic spaces of the Giorgio Cini Foundation on the island of San Giorgio Maggiore, offering a multisensory experience dedicated to the materials, techniques, and hands that shape objects of great artistic value.

The exhibition, organized by the Michelangelo Foundation for Creativity and Craftsmanship, brings hundreds of works by artisans from around the world to the lagoon, highlighting the extraordinary variety of techniques and materials that make craftsmanship a universal language of beauty and cultural identity.

A journey through light, materials, and creativity

This edition’s theme is ”An Island of Light”, an invitation to explore the profound relationship between light, materials, and the human hand, through immersive installations and scenography curated by renowned artist and designer Es Devlin, chosen as artistic director for 2026. In fifteen light installations, unique works and exceptionally crafted objects will interact with the Foundation’s historic spaces, creating narrative paths that showcase artisanal skill in all its forms.

The exhibition features not only objects, but also live demonstrations, interactive workshops, and insights into traditional and contemporary techniques, allowing visitors to understand firsthand how the creations are created and the stories they hold.

Homo Faber in the City

In parallel with the main exhibition, Homo Faber in the City returns, a multi-faceted program that brings craftsmanship to Venetian workshops: throughout the month of September, local workshops open their doors to the public, offering an authentic glimpse into the lagoon’s heritage of manual skills and building a bridge between Venetian artisan tradition and global trends in artisan excellence. Participating in Homo Faber 2026 means experiencing Venice in a new light, discovering how art and craftsmanship intertwine, and appreciating creativity as a tool for innovation and cultural heritage.
