Tradition, family and Venetian rowing
The Venice Historical Regatta is one of the city’s most anticipated and iconic events. It takes place every year on the first Sunday of September and is the highlight of the Venetian rowing calendar, a unique discipline practiced in the lagoon for centuries and passed down from generation to generation.
The Regatta is more than just a sporting competition: it is a popular celebration, a collective ritual involving families, sestieri, and enthusiasts, recounting the profound bond between Venice and water.
The Historical Parade: Venice Recalls Its Originality
What makes the Historical Regatta such a unique spectacle is the famous historical parade that precedes the races. This evocative parade features dozens of richly decorated and multicolored sixteenth-century boats, with rowers and figures in period costume.
The Doge, the Dogaressa, and the main Venetian magistrates parade along the Grand Canal, faithfully reenacting the glorious past of the Serenissima, one of the most powerful Maritime Republics in the Mediterranean. A solemn and spectacular moment that captivates adults and children alike, transforming the city into a vast open-air story.
The sporting heart of the day is represented by the regattas, in which crews from various categories challenge each other. The most anticipated competition is the champions’ regatta on gondolini, light and extremely fast boats that race along the Grand Canal to the finish line.
The finish line is in front of the famous “machina”, the floating stage set up in front of Ca’ Foscari, an iconic symbol of the Regata Storica and the focal point of the event.
A family tradition
The Regata Storica is also a story of Venetian families Our family has actively participated in this tradition for many years, working on the machina, contributing with passion and expertise to one of the most iconic moments of the festival.
From that experience, built on shared work, craftsmanship, and love for the city, the Oficine800 project was born, rooted in the same values: craftsmanship, tradition, and continuity between past and present.
An event to experience together
The Regata Storica is a celebration designed for everyone, especially families. The banks of the Grand Canal fill with people of all ages, cheering, applauding, and enjoying the company of others. It’s the perfect opportunity to experience Venice authentically, participating in an event that deeply resonates with its community.
Attending the Regata Storica means entering the heart of the city, sharing a tradition that has united sport, history, and family for centuries.
